At age 3, Dawn Desiree was singing and forming in her mind the dream of writing and publicly performing her music.  While she partly fulfilled her dream throughout high school performing in various choirs, it was in 1996 that she started to fully fulfill her dream.  In that year she teamed up with Kevin Thomas and formed the Ethereal Heavy Metal band Rain Fell Within.  Throughout the years they would perform at various festivals and be signed to Dark Symphonies for several releases over the next few years.  In 2001 Dawn more fully realized her dream by writing and performing her own solo music.  Her first release was a limited edition CDR on The Fossil Dungeon which was mostly minimalistic piano and her beautiful soprano vocals.  After the disintegration of Rain Fell Within, she was left to concentrate on her solo work.  In 2004 she expanded her horizons, showcasing her various talents with a myriad of styles on the release Dancing, Dreaming, Longing..., also released on The Fossil Dungeon label.

With this latest release, Dawn embarks on a new stage in her career.  Her solo work brings to light the many talents and versatile styles she is capable of.  From soft piano sculptures to soaring soprano vocals, she defies many of the pop divas with her elegant and powerful vocals.  Fans of the many Ethereal bands that have graced the Gothic Ethereal music scene will enjoy this talented artist.

Dawn Desiree joins the ranks of the many talented artists that are able to present great dance music and the softest and siren-like ethereal music here on Gothic Paradise.  Be sure to check out selections on the Gothic Paradise radio shows.

Dancing, Dreaming, Longing... - Review

While I have heard Rain Fell Within, I wasn't even aware of the many talents and beautiful style and vocals that Dawn Desiree possesses.  I wasn't even aware of the limited edition work previously released.  But with this album I was thoroughly impressed and surprised from start to finish.  I first put it on and started enjoying the absolutely beautiful piano and stunning soprano vocals on "Waltz of the Afterlife".  The piano truly brought to life the amazing vocals and spirit of this music.  After listening to this song I assumed I was in for a soft ethereal treat of piano and angelic vocals.  I was pleasantly surprised with "Dance in Time" as the tempo slightly picks up with a subtle and very deep bass drum, mid-tempo percussion and soft keyboard loops combined with the smooth vocals.  The ethereal textures and soundscapes come back in full with another beautiful ethereal piece with the thought-provoking "What is Real".  This beautiful track is a definite highlight with the very intelligent lyrics and superb music and vocals.

After these first few tracks the listener soon comes to realize this album isn't just about soft, soaring ethereal music.  "Revenge" slowly builds to a fast-paced, Techno/Synthpop style track that blends surprisingly well with the slightly distorted soprano voice.  While not a real heavy-hitting track, the dance-beat still makes it quite enjoyable for fans of the faster moving Trance or Techno beat that many bands in the underground scene are experimenting with lately with EBM, Synthpop and Trance crossovers.  "Feel Me" is another great track that slowly builds into a solid dance track through soaring ethereal soundscapes blended with a moving dance beat.

With this combination of drifting in and out of these two styles, the variety on this album is great and something fans can really appreciate.  "My Wings" sums it all up while drifting in and out of these elements that hold the listener captivated.  While Dawn's talents are excellently captured on this album, I can't forget to mention the additional contributions from other very noteworthy artists on this album.  Listed in the credits are the Riddick brothers from The Soil Bleeds Black and The Fossil Dungeon.  And lastly, I wanted to note this beautiful album comes in an equally stunning digipack case with a 12-page booklet loaded with the meaningful lyrics, art and photography.  All of this combined makes for a very nice and complete package that you can really enjoy.
