Elane is the collaborative effort of four young artists and musicians Joran (vocals, guitars, tin whistle), Skaldir (guitars, percussion), Nico (keyboard, programming, vocals, percussion) and Katrin (vocals, violin).  Joran has many years of musical experience and background and had been recording music and by 2001 joined with Skaldir to record the debut self-released CD Der Nachtwald.  The four band members would later come together in what we now know as Elane and sign with Kalinkaland Records for the release of their official debut album The Fire of Glenvore.  The name Elane isn't the name of any member or physical being, but more a feeling or mood that the band likes to portray.  And so the band progresses towards reaching their goals in producing the music they love.

After the great legacy of Harald Lowey's own Chandeen, it seems only fitting that after their parting that we are presented with this incredibly new talented group.  The music spans a magical world of fairytales and the styles of folk, ethereal, medieval and dark wave.  Any fan of celtic or of these mystical worlds of music are going to fall in love with this band the first time they hear them.  This is the way it was for me, from the very first track I heard, I knew this was going to be a new favorite for me and listeners of Gothic Paradise radio.  After just one release, this band should take the ethereal dream-world by storm.  With the great talent that this group has between them, the future seems very bright right now.  Of course we can only speculate what the future holds for them, but we wish the best and for many more releases of this caliber.  They can be found playing many popular festivals and concerts, mostly in Germany, but probably around other parts of Europe and hopefully North America.  In the meantime, be sure to check out the band's website for more information and an awesome music video of the excellent track "Trace of the Flames".

The Fire of Glenvore - Review

Wow!  I couldn't believe what I was hearing when I first put this CD on.  From the very first introductory piece "Return to Armagh", the listener can feel themselves drifting off into the fantasy world created by the group known as Elane.  Immediately following this introductory track is the mystical ballad-like journey through "Trace of the Flames" with the subtle guitar, beautiful violin and Joran taking the lead on vocals.  Her beautiful alto voice moves smoothly along throughout each piece with Katrin occasionally adding her own harmonies as well as Nico presenting his own smooth baritone voice on "Come to the Sea".

The magical world of the music comes alive so well in each track as we move from mystical forests to fiery swamps and moonlight shadows all in one album.  "In the Nights of Rain and Storm" brings us out of the the gloomier moods and breathes life into the world with the sweet melodies and vocals.  "Crystal Clear Water" is another upbeat track which soothes the heat from the fires felt in previous and latter tracks.  It all becomes such a magical journey from one selection to another.  A favorite of mine is their cover of the traditional folk song "Shule Aroon" with the upbeat violin as accompaniment to the fun vocals and lyrics.

The entire album is something of a soundtrack for a magical movie.  The band is often related to the feelings and themes of Tolkien's Lord of The Rings trilogy, and the music and, lyrics, whispers and samples all provide this magical backdrop.  As the album progresses and we hear "Nightride to Glenvore" with the sound of running horses and warriors riding through the night and finally drifting off to the magical mysterious world of "Now and Then", it all comes together so perfectly and magically.

As a special treat, the final four tracks of this album are also the first four tracks that actually came from Elane.  These four pieces have been remastered to be re-released on this album.  Thus we can see that from the very beginning these artists have had a great goal in mind and have managed to pull it together through these earlier tracks as well as the final debut album.

This is definitely a treat for fans of this fantasy fairyworld music.  Featuring seventeen stellar tracks which launch this band on the road to a bright future and promising career.
